ROCKET LEAGUE FREE TO PLAY: SEASONS, NEW RANKS, AND MORE September 2, 2020   Max Parker Announcements

We are getting close to Rocket League's free to play launch! Over the past few weeks, we've taken a closer look at features like revamped Tournaments, new Challenges, and Cross-Platform Progression. It may seem hard to believe, but there are still more changes to reveal! Here's everything else you can expect when you fire up the game once free to play launches! STREAMLINED SEASONS Between Rocket Pass, Competitive Seasons, and soon Tournaments all happening at the same time within Rocket League, we're streamlining the seasonal schedule. Competitive Seasons, Competitive Tournaments, and Rocket Pass will all follow the same schedule. It all starts when Rocket League goes free to play and Season 1 begins.  Rocket Pass will no longer be numbered on its own, and will instead be an extension of the Season. So, when Season 1 goes live, so will its Rocket Pass and Competitive Season. When Season 1 ends, its Rocket Pass and Competitive Season also end, and Season 2 will begin with its own Rocket Pass and Competitive Season. With uniform start and end dates, we hope it's easier to track how long you have to complete your challenges and hit your dream Rank! NEW COMPETITIVE RANKS! Speaking of dream Ranks, there's about to be a new mountaintop. Starting with the launch of free to play, a new rank is being added above the current Grand Champion Rank.  Grand Champion will be split into three different Ranks just like the ranks below it. Grand Champion will be split into Grand Champion 1, Grand Champion 2, and Grand Champion 3. Current Grand Champions will likely be placed in Grand Champion 1 (depending on placement matches). Then begins the journey to the new highest competitive rank: Supersonic Legend

Both Grand Champion and Supersonic Legend will have their own Season Rewards at the end of Season 1, as well as Rank-specific Titles. MMR will still be displayed in the Playlist menu once you hit Grand Champion 1. Good luck climbing to the new top of the Rocket League mountain!  Changes aren't only happening at the top. We're working to soft reset the rest of the ranks to account for incoming players picking up Rocket League for the first time. This means Ranks will shift closer to the median Rank (close to Gold III). For instance, when current Bronze players complete their placement matches, they may be placed in a higher rank since they'll be better than new players who are just starting out.  There's also a new requirement to unlock Ranked Playlists. Players will have to be Level 10 in order to play Ranked.  NEW PLAYER EXPERIENCE When people pick up Rocket League for the first time following the launch of free to play, we want to make sure they're as comfortable as possible once they hit the field. That's why there will be a new experience for new players when they first fire up the game. The new tutorial will put new players right on the field, and will teach the basic HUD and button layout. New players will also have New Driver Challenges to unlock items that were included in the base version of Rocket League OTHER THINGS TO KNOW

  • PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch Online will no longer be required for online play on those platforms.

  • Rocket ID Will Become Epic Friends

    • When the update goes live, your Rocket ID friends list will become the Epic Friends list. Friends you had through Rocket ID will transfer to Epic Friends, and any friends you currently have through your Epic Games Account will be visible in Rocket League.

    • Faking.

    • Bumping!

    • On your left.

    • On your right.

WHEN IS THE UPDATE COMING?! Yes, we've been sharing a ton of info about Rocket League's next update, and you really want to know when to expect it. We'll be rolling out an update on current platforms in the next few weeks around mid September, and the launch of free to play will follow shortly after. We can't share the exact date quite yet, but stay tuned for more info. Don't forget, when free to play launches, it will only be available to new PC players via the Epic Games Store. Make sure to add it to your wishlist!  Thanks for your patience! We can't wait to get these new features like Tournaments, Challenges, and Cross-Platform Progression in your hands. Stay tuned to RocketLeague.com and follow us on Twitter for the last bit of info just around the corner!

ROCKET LEAGUE CHALLENGES: A CLOSER LOOK August 26, 2020   Max Parker Announcements

WHAT'S IN THIS CLOSER LOOK:

  • HOW IN-GAME CHALLENGES ARE EXPANDING

  • WHAT YOU GET FOR COMPLETING CHALLENGES

  • HOW YOU WILL EARN ITEMS AFTER FREE TO PLAY

  • HOW SERIES AND TRADE-INS ARE CHANGING

You'll have a whole new way to earn items when Rocket League goes free to play, and it all starts with revamped Challenges. Currently, Challenges are part of Rocket Pass but soon, Challenges will be game-wide, and each will grant a reward upon completion. Here's everything you can expect to see when you check out the new Challenge system for the first time.  UP FOR A CHALLENGE?  The new Challenge system will feature Weekly, Season, and Event Challenges (more on those later). Each week, players will get three Weekly Challenges. When the week refreshes each Wednesday, three new Challenges will replace the Challenges from the previous week. Plus, Rocket Pass Premium users will get an additional three. Weekly Challenges will have to be completed during the week when they are active.  Season Challenges, like the name suggests, span the entire season. These will take longer to complete, but will grant better rewards. Some Season Challenges will be available when the season starts while the rest gradually unlock in stages as the season progresses. Rocket Pass Premium users will get twice as many Season Challenges to complete. You'll be able to track your Challenge progress in the all-new Challenges widget being added to the right side of the main menu, as well as in the Challenge Menu. The Challenge Menu is where you'll track your Challenges and see the rewards you can receive. It's also where you'll claim your rewards on all your completed Challenges, which you'll have to do once you complete them. Rewards will include customization items, XP, or our new Drops Drops can be found as Challenge rewards, and on the free track of Rocket Pass. When opened, Drops award an item that is added to your inventory. They come in every rarity type starting with Uncommon and grant an item of the same rarity as the Drop or higher (including Black Market items). The items received from Drops are tradable to other players, but the Drops themselves are not. After the launch of free to play, Challenges and Drops will be your primary way to earn free items instead of receiving items from leveling up. CHANGES TO ITEM SERIES AND TRADE-INS Rocket League is expanding the variety of free items players can receive with free to play. Drops can contain items from Blueprint (or previous Crate) Series, including everything from Champions 1 Series all the way to Vindicator Series. This means you can get Zomba Wheels, Dueling Dragons Goal Explosions, Heatwave Decals, and so much more.  Free items earned from Challenges and Drops can still be traded in following the update (trade in five items for one item of higher rarity). Free items you receive after free to play won't be linked to a specific series, and these items can all be traded in together as long as they share the same rarity.  Because you can receive so many new items from Trade-Ins, current items will naturally appear less often. So, if there are specific items from that group that you are looking for, say, a Titanium White Octane, be sure to trade in your items prior to the launch of free to play. NEW DRIVER CHALLENGES Players picking up Rocket League for the first time will see New Driver Challenges in their Challenge Menu. This is how new players will unlock items that were included in the base game prior to going free to play. New accounts will only have access to Octane, Breakout, and Merc to start, but New Driver Challenges will expand their garage and unlock some of the common cars and items that were already unlocked in the paid version of Rocket League. Complete the New Driver Challenges or reach Level 20 to gain access to Weekly Challenges.   There's still more to reveal as we get closer to the launch of Rocket League free to play. We'll share more on Event Challenges as we get closer to our first Event following the free to play launch! Stay tuned to RocketLeague.com for all the info on free to play and follow us on Twitter for updates!

REVAMPED TOURNAMENTS: A CLOSER LOOK August 18, 2020   Max Parker Announcements

WHAT'S IN THIS CLOSER LOOK:

  • HOW TOURNAMENTS ARE GETTING REVAMPED

  • WHEN PLAYERS CAN JOIN TOURNAMENTS

  • HOW COMPETITIVE RANK AFFECTS YOUR TOURNAMENTS

  • NEW ITEMS FOUND IN TOURNAMENTS!

Rocket League is getting a whole new way to compete! The Tournaments feature will see a major overhaul with free to play coming later this summer. Get ready to feel the competitive energy of what it's like playing in Rocket League Esports, but in Tournaments for all Ranks! Soon, players around the world will be able to join automatically scheduled Tournaments each day, climb their way through the bracket, and reap the rewards of victory! There’s a lot being added to Tournaments, and this blog has everything you need to know.  DOMINATE THE BRACKET Get ready to join and compete in Rocket League's revamped in-game Tournaments, all of which are completely free to join! Players will soon be able to sign up for Competitive Tournaments, a new ranked mode within Tournaments that pits you against teams of similar skill to earn rewards. Each region has multiple Competitive Tournaments scheduled each day, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to compete. You can sign up from the revamped Tournaments Menu that shows the daily schedule for your region. Once a Competitive Tournament begins, we generate 32-team, single-elimination brackets based on each team's skill. Teams will play one match each round until the Semifinals and Finals, which are best of three. Teams that lose in the first round (or show up after the Tournament start time) can join a "Second Chance" bracket for another try at victory. Competitive Tournaments are 3v3 at launch and support parties of all sizes, from a full squad of three to a solo-queued hopeful. Your Tournaments Rank is initially determined by your Rank from Competitive matchmaking, but changes over the course of each season depending on your Tournaments performance. Like Competitive matchmaking, we base the skill of mixed-rank parties on their highest skilled player. For example, if two Gold II players team up with a Diamond I player, that team will be entered into a Diamond Tournament. Win your games, move forward, and get closer to brand new rewards in Rocket League Tournaments.  WHAT DO YOU GET FOR COMPETING IN A TOURNAMENT? Everyone who makes it out of the First Round of a Tournament will receive new in-game currency called Tournament Credits, and performing well and making it farther in a bracket will earn you more. Tournaments at a higher Rank will grant larger Tournament Credit rewards. For instance, strong Silver Ranked players stand to earn more Tournament Credits if they get pulled into a Gold Rank Tournament, but their competition will be tougher. The Tournament Credit reward is the same for all three team members.  Getting at least one win in any Tournament gives you Tournament Credits, but most of your earnings will come from your Top 3 Weekly Placements, which reset at the end of each week on Sunday. For example, winning a Gold Tournament is worth roughly 1,200 Tournament Credits, but your Weekly Placement reward for that result is 4,500 Tournament Credits (for a total of 5,700). The better your results, the higher the weekly reward.  Tournament Credits can be redeemed to get Cups that will grant you a customization item including Wheels, animated Decals, and even Goal Explosions. There are four levels of Cups that become available as you increase your Tournaments Rank. The higher level the Cup, the more often you’ll unlock an item of higher rarity. All Tournament items can have special attributes like Painted or Certified. You can also trade in unwanted items to receive Tournament items of a higher rarity. That even goes for Exotic items, which can be traded up to Black Market! Plus, if you win a tournament, you’ll get a Title that shows off the Rank of the Tournament you won. Winning three similarly ranked tournaments throughout a season will grant you a colored Title at that Rank. OTHER THINGS TO KNOW Players can join every scheduled Tournament they want to each week. In other words, there's no limit to how many tournaments you may join.  Since dropping out of a Tournament early can really hurt a team, there will be sanctions for this type of behavior to keep things fair. Quitting early results in a 15 minute matchmaking ban and a 3 hour Tournament ban. If you continue to abandon Tournaments early, this penalty will escalate to a 24-hour Tournament ban, then a 7-day Tournament ban plus a 24 hour matchmaking ban in extremely severe cases. Each Tournament you complete (play until victory or elimination) counts towards reducing your potential penalties. A player who drops out of a Tournament will also forfeit any rewards they've earned so far in that Tournament.  Since Tournaments rely on all teams finishing their games in a timely manner, matches will have a hard endpoint, instead of a virtually infinite overtime. The longest a match can be is 11 total minutes (this includes time spent for kickoffs and replays). If the game is tied, the team with the most shots wins. If the number of shots are the same, then the winner will be decided by a coin flip.  Tournaments will follow the same schedule as Rocket League’s Competitive Seasons. Once a new Competitive Season begins, some Tournament items will be retired and new items will take their place. And, just like Season Reward Titles change with the Seasons, so will the Titles you can earn from winning a Tournament.  We’ve also made some changes to custom Tournaments. Now, tournament organizers can spectate the games happening in the brackets they create. This will help Tournament organizers and content creators who want to organize their own Tournaments with friends and fans.   There’s so much packed into Rocket League’s new Tournament system that’s coming in our next update, and we hope you enjoy this brand new way to face off against the competition. So, get ready to dominate the bracket and earn the spoils of victory later this summer!

CROSS-PLATFORM PROGRESSION WITH FREE TO PLAY: A CLOSER LOOK August 11, 2020   Max Parker Announcements

WHAT'S IN THIS CLOSER LOOK:

  • HOW TO LINK YOUR PLATFORMS TO YOUR EPIC GAMES ACCOUNT WHEN THE UPDATE GOES LIVE

  • HOW TO SELECT A PRIMARY PLATFORM

  • WHAT ITEMS WILL AND WON'T BE ACCESSIBLE ACROSS YOUR PLATFORMS

  • INFO ON PLAYER-TO-PLAYER TRADING

  • FREE ITEM JUST FOR LINKING!

Cross-platform progression, one of Rocket League's most requested features, is set to arrive with the game's next update. Soon, you'll be able to share your Competitive Rank, Rocket Pass Progress, and your hard-earned inventory across all platforms! We want to make sure players are ready, and this blog has everything you need to know. HOW TO LINK YOUR ACCOUNTS ON UPDATE DAY Rocket League’s cross-platform progression is made possible with an Epic Games Account. So, creating one or signing into your existing Epic Games Account is the first step of the process. You'll be prompted to do this when you start up Rocket League for the first time after the update. Once that's completed, there are a couple of different ways to connect your Rocket League platforms to your Epic Games Account and complete the process for cross-platform progression.  Once you're logged in, you will be asked to set a Primary Platform. Your Primary Platform will be your source of progression (Rocket Pass Progress, Competitive Rank, XP Level) for all of your connected platforms. In other words, be sure to choose the platform where you have the most progress in Rocket Pass, and your highest Competitive Rank. Credit and Esports Token balances will stay tied to each platform as they cannot be transferred to a new platform. Once your Primary Platform is selected, you will be able to play with your Competitive Rank, and Rocket Pass progress, and XP Level on all other connected platforms.  You'll be able to connect additional platforms you have to your Epic Games Account on our account linking page. Simply link your platforms using your PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch Online, and Steam account login information and share progress. You may also designate one of them as your Primary Platform from the linking page. If you've linked platforms to your Epic Games Account in the past, you won't need to do it again for Rocket League. If you make a mistake or change your mind about which platform will be your primary, don't worry! You will be able to unlink your platform and choose a different platform as your primary, but you will not be able to link that platform to a different Epic Games Account.   If you're looking for an extra reason to link your Rocket League platforms to your Epic Games Account, everyone who does will automatically receive the Chopper EG Wheels pictured above! YOUR INVENTORY. FROM EVERY PLATFORM. IN ONE PLACE. Shared Inventory is a major part of Rocket League’s cross-platform progression. Each platform you link to your Epic Games Account shares its inventory with your other connected platforms, with a few key exceptions. For example, if you completed Rocket Pass 2 on your PC but also play on other platforms, you can now use those Rocket Pass 2 items everywhere. Here's everything that will and won't be shared across your connected platforms: Shared Across Platforms

  • All earned free drops (Common Items, Event Items)

  • Season Rewards & Titles

  • Rocket Pass Items

  • Item Shop Purchases

  • Blueprints and items built from blueprints

  • All Rocket League-branded DLC included in the Legacy Pack

Not Shared

  • Platform-Exclusive Items: e.g., Sweet Tooth, Hogsticker, Armadillo, Mario and Luigi NSR, and Samus' Gunship

  • Ultimate Edition On-Disc DLC: Batman/DC Superheroes Pack

  • Premium DLC Packs: licensed content that was previously available in the Showroom (e.g., Back To The Future, Jurassic World, DC Superheroes, Fast and the Furious, Ghostbusters, Knight Rider, etc.)

  • Credits and Esports tokens balances

You will still have access to use the purchased DLC Packs on the platform where they were purchased. We are working to make Premium DLC accessible across platforms, but this will not be available when free to play launches. PLAYER-TO-PLAYER TRADING The arrival of cross-platform progression means changes to player-to-player trading To reduce the risk of fraud, purchased items can only be traded on their platform of purchase. For example, if you build a Blueprint with Credits on PlayStation, you won't be able to trade that item on a linked Xbox or any other linked platform. It's only tradable on PlayStation. Your other tradable items can be traded regardless of which platform you acquired them on, but you can only initiate trades with players logged into the same platform as you. As an additional anti-fraud measure, we will also require both players involved in any trade to have purchased at least 500 Credits (players who played Rocket League before the launch of free to play are exempt from this requirement).  We're excited to bring cross-platform progression to Rocket League, and this is just one of the new features coming to the game when the update goes live later this summer. We still have a lot of info to share as we approach launch. So, stay tuned for more info at RocketLeague.com and follow us on Twitter for the latest news and announcements. Editor's Note: Items purchased from the Esports Shop, Fan Rewards, and RLCS attendee items will be accessible across linked platforms.
